Made in USA Whistles | American Whistle Corporation

America's only manufacturer of solid brass whistles.

Since 1956, every American Whistle has been built start-to-finish in Columbus, Ohio. We draw the brass, stamp the bodies, tune the chambers, plate the finish, and ship the boxes — all from one factory, with American workers, using American materials. No outsourced assembly. No "designed in USA, made overseas" sleight of hand.

We are the only company in the United States that still does this.

What "Made in USA" actually means at AWC

The Federal Trade Commission's "Made in USA" standard requires that all or virtually all of a product's ingredients, processing, and assembly happen in the United States. Most "American" whistles on the market do not meet that bar. Ours do.

  • Brass alloy: sourced from U.S. mills
  • Stamping and forming: Columbus, Ohio
  • Plating and finishing: Columbus, Ohio
  • Cork pea (where used): sourced and inserted in-house
  • Lanyards and packaging: assembled at our factory
  • Quality inspection and tuning: every whistle, by hand

If a product cannot clear that standard, we don't claim it. That distinction matters to coaches, referees, safety officers, and the federal government buyers who depend on us.

Why Made in USA matters for institutional buyers

Buy American Act eligible

The Buy American Act (BAA) requires federal agencies to give preference to U.S.-manufactured products. Domestic content thresholds rose to 65% in 2024 and will increase to 75% by 2029. Our solid brass whistles exceed both thresholds today.

We supply federal, state, and local agencies — including law enforcement, first responders, military units, and public safety programs — that require BAA-eligible signaling equipment.

Berry Amendment qualified

For Department of Defense purchases of textiles, clothing, and certain hand tools, the Berry Amendment imposes an even stricter domestic-sourcing standard than the BAA. Where applicable to whistle procurement under defense contracts, our products qualify.

Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliant

For purchases through GSA Multiple Award Schedule and other federal contract vehicles, our country of origin (United States) satisfies TAA requirements.

Documentation available on request

We provide written certifications, country-of-origin statements, and domestic content documentation directly to procurement officers. Request documentation →

Why Made in USA matters for everyone else

A USA-made brass whistle isn't a slogan. It's a sound.

Solid brass produces a sharper attack, a fuller body, and a longer-carrying tone than the plastic and stainless alternatives that dominate the market. Our 126 dB American Classic has been the signature sound of American officiating, coaching, and emergency signaling for nearly seventy years — because the metal, the tuning, and the craftsmanship are all done in one place by people who care that it lasts.

When you buy from us, you are buying:

  • A whistle that will outlast every plastic competitor on the field
  • A tone that cuts through crowd noise, weather, and distance
  • A product that supports American manufacturing jobs
  • A company that has been family-run from the same Ohio factory since the Eisenhower administration

Our factory in Columbus, Ohio

We open the floor to visitors. Schools, scout troops, journalists, and procurement officers regularly tour our facility — watching the same machines and processes that have produced American Whistles for almost seven decades.

Who we serve

Built in the USA. Trusted everywhere it matters.

If a whistle has to work when it counts — a referee's last call, a coach's signal across a stadium, an officer's emergency, a parent's lanyard on a child's backpack — it needs to be one that was built right. Ours are.
